The Jump That Never Ends

Cautiously shift my feet
Closer to the edge
Turn my head back
To your horrified face
I give you one last smile
Hoping you’d understand
The purpose of my jump
Is for you to take my hand
Your expression remains the same
Widened eyes, open mouth
I take a step out
Off the edge of this cliff
Finally you realize
What I wanted you to grasp
And as I’m flying down
The waves crashing below
Floating above the rocks
I glance down to see you waiting
To catch me before
I land.
